Wash Day - Twisted Up-do

It's a little strange to me that I can have these effortless wash days at > 6 months post. With all the new growth I've got, you'd think it'd be a struggle, but no, smooth as butter.

I started off by deep conditioning over night on dry hair which was previously in twists. I finger detangled prior to applying the deep conditioner - Organics Hair Mayo, then sealed with my oil mix and prepped my hair for bed.

The next morning, I proceeded to rinse and apply my shampoo. I used TRESseme Smooth & Silky shampoo once and then I did a second shampoo with Shea Moisture Retention shampoo to restore the moisture as the former was a bit drying. I then conditioned with the matching TRESseme conditioner , put my hair in 2 braids while rinsing and T-shirt dried that way.

When my hair was dry and stretched, I added some leave-in conditioner - NTM Silk Touch Leave-in cream and some serum (L'Oreal Frizz Taming), after which I put my hair in this up-do.

All in all, it was an easy, stress-free wash day which I really appreciated at 27 weeks post.

It's been a while, but I'm linking with some other lovely ladies where we all share our wash day experience. Check them out.

Return o' da Mac - Wash Day Routine + Video

Hey There!
Guess who's back?!

My apologies for my absence! I have been caught up in a whole bunch of things and time got away from me.

But I have emerged from my month-long hiatus on a very special day - It is:
  1. My 3-year hair anniversary
  2. Wash day

As such, I had to come back with something different, special even. A video of my last wash day!
I filmed the process from start to finish for you, my loves. I hope you will enjoy the video. And though it be All Fools' Day, this one is not a prank. I really do have a wonderful video below for your perusal, so go ahead and check it out.

Thanks for watching!

How was your wash day??

p.s. I'm joining the lovelies over there at the #washdayexperience for this one, so you can check them out if you're in the mood for some more wash day posts.

Wash Day - Braid-outs, Beaches & Buns

So after a fun-filled Heroes Weekend in the countryside and inherently, at the beach, my hair was due for a little pampering.

Wash Day - Tea Time

This was a run of the mill wash day.
Actually, all my wash days go pretty much the same way these days. I may change a few products here and there, but they are quite standard and I haven't had a disastrous wash day in a long long time (thank you Jesus! lol).

Wash Day feat. OGX (Organix) Kukui Oil Shampoo & Conditioner

This wash day started out with me detangling and prepooing my hair with coconut oil. The detangling step was very necessary this time around, as I had been wearing rope twists and the hair clumped together a lot due to the style. After detangling, I put my hair into my old friend - the four braids that I loved so much. Next I applied the Kukui oil shampoo to my dry hair.

Wash Day - 7/28

Last wash day was a little different from what I'd normally do.
I had a braidout that I wore to my sister's welcome home bash that was old and dry after partying so hard lol.

Setting Things Straight - Wash day 6/20 {12 weeks post}

I started off by finger-detangling with water (the products I've been using lately seem to be reactivated with water, leaving my hair super soft without any added products) and then deep-conditioning with a plastic cap for about 2 hours. I used a mix of deep conditioners (Shea Moisture's Deep Treatment Masque & Restorative Conditioner + Aussie 3 minute Moist & Organics Hair Mayo for a kick of protein ).

Still Flexing - Wash Day {5/2}

Last wash day I started off by:

  • detangling and pre-pooing with coconut oil. Of course I braided in my 4 sections as per usual.
  • Next I added my queen helene DC mix from this post sans glycerin
  • then I hopped in the shower to rinse. I skipped the shampoo this week and went straight for my Aussie moist instant conditioner.
  • after I rinsed, I t-shirt dried for 15 mins and then it was on to install some flexi rods.

Preparing for the Big Day - (Pre-relaxer) Washday - 3/20

As I previously mentioned, I will be relaxing sometime next week and so on Thursday, the last day of work, I went ahead and washed my hair and also prepped it for the relaxer process. Here's how:

Trouble in Paradise - Wash Day 3/8

Last week's wash was an interesting one.

I started off by taking down last week's PS (which as you'll see down below, remained moisturized all week)...

You're a Life-Saver - Wash Day in Braids

Wash days up to this point (11+ weeks) have been a joy. And I attribute that to my somewhat new modus operandi of washing my hair in braids. And by that I mean executing the ENTIRE wash day that way. Before I discovered this technique, I would braid my hair in the four sections and loosen and re-braid the sections multiple times during the wash session for the various processes. Not only was that extremely time-consuming, tangles abounded. Of course at that time I viewed the amount of tangling as normal, but now I know better and I want to spread the word so that your wash days can be just as glorious.

All-inclusive Wash Day - 2/21 (10 weeks post)

This wash day, I decided to incorporate some protein. It's been a while, so why not?! I also needed to clarify my hair this week. Much to do, so let's get to it.

  • Finger-detangled, then with a wide tooth comb. My hair was a little bit tangled since I didn't do much to it last week (read didn't detangle at all lol). So I pulled out my trusty Mane n' Tail detangler to help get the job done. I hadn't used this in a while! It worked wonders. It really softened my hair and loosened tangles. I didn't lose much hair at all.

I Could Get Used to This! - Wash Day 1.26.14

Yesterday was wash day, at which time I was 2 days short of 6 weeks post relaxer, and yet it was as smooth as butter.

I started off by pre-pooing with Aubrey's Honeysuckle Rose  (+ the remainder of a conditioner mix from last wash day). I detangled with my fingers and a wide tooth comb and then put my hair into 4 braids for the wash process. (Can I tell you?! The Aubrey may not have a lot of slip, but it is great for detangling because it is so moisturizing and gives my hair elasticity. It works really well.) I then sat under a plastic cap and bonnet dryer for 15 mins and left it in for quite a while thereafter.

Saved by the Braids- Wash Day 1.14.14

Don't you just love easy breezy wash days?! *insert loong happy sigh*
This wash day was just that!

It started off with me doing a hot oil treatment using EVOO on Saturday. I applied the oil to my hair and scalp in sections and proceeded to braid each section after it had been oiled. I pinned them all up and went on my way. I didn't have any engagements this weekend and Monday is a national holiday, so I let my hair stay this way until I was ready to wash...I was finally ready on Monday lol.

Queen Helene/ Moroccan Argan Oil DC/ Hair Spa Aloe DC + EVOO
I woke up and applied my DC (pictured left) mix to the four sections while still braided. I wrapped my head in cling foil and a plastic cap and sat under my bonnet dryer for about a 1/2 an hour. It remained in this condition for another 2 hours. I hopped in the shower and rinsed the DC mix from my hair, and absent-mindedly applied the very same shampoo (herbal essences moisture shampoo) that I hated a few wash days back...oh hellll no! Why'd I do that?

If You Like it Then You Shoulda Put a Rinse on it...? - Clear Rinsing

I rambled about my interest in clear rinses before. I shared with you some of the benefits and reposted some testimonials from a few bloggers. The time has finally come for me to try it out.

I did the rinse on the wash day following my relaxer. I skipped it on relaxer day for a few reasons: I didn't have much time and I didn't plan on styling my hair properly. I simply air-dried and went on my merry way. I wanted to see the full effects of the rinse so I wanted to wait until I was able to style properly.

I started the following wash day with a coconut, EVOO, and grapeseed oil hot oil/ pre-poo treatment. I followed that with a mini clarifying wash with ORS (to fully remove any relaxer that may still be present, although I highly doubt that), then I deep conditioned with ORS HaiRepair Nourishing Conditioner (light protein), followed by a moisturizing DC with Queen Helene Cholesterol creme (ginseng) to be on the safe side. **You may remember I struggled with protein overload a little while ago ad I don't want to risk that agin. I think it's important to have the moisture/ protein balance on point as the clear rinse will 'lock' your hair in it's current state.** Finally, I cooled and sealed with Tresseme Moisture Rich conditioner and then did my clear rinse.

The Trickery! - Wash Day 29/11

It was my intention to wear my protective style for 6 weeks, it really was. However, I made it to 4 and was like F this. lol I just grew tired of wearing a wig and wanted my own hair again.

So on Friday night, I got to undoing my braids and finger detangling. This process took me a mere 25 mins, as opposed to last time when it lasted about 2.5 hours, and with minimal shedding too. I laughed in the face of the small amount of shed hair.
