Wash Day - Tea Time

This was a run of the mill wash day.
Actually, all my wash days go pretty much the same way these days. I may change a few products here and there, but they are quite standard and I haven't had a disastrous wash day in a long long time (thank you Jesus! lol).

So anyway, I started off by deep conditioning on dry hair using Profectiv Mega Growth anti-breakage, strengthening deep conditioner, and I sealed the conditioner in with my oil mix. I wore a plastic cap for about 20 minutes and left the conditioner in for a few hours after that.

The next step was something I haven't done in a long time - a tea rinse. I steeped 3 black tea bags in boiled water for about 2 hours, and used it to rinse the deep conditioner from my hair (without using water first). I let it sit for about 2 minutes.

Then I shampooed my hair with Shea Moisture - moisture retention shampoo. Finally, I rinsed my hair until it was shampoo, tea and conditioner-free. My hair felt clean, soft and strong.

I skipped the instant conditioner and went straight into t-shirt drying. I did so for about 5 or 10 minutes. I didn't want the hair to dry out too much because the water will act as the "L" in the LOC method which I was about to execute. Then I sealed the water in my hair with my oil mix, and sealed the oil in with Shea Moisture Restorative conditioner.

I left the hair to air-dry a little, then threw it up into a kind of top knot, and that was that.

How did your wash day fair?

p.s. As usual I'm linking up with the gang hosting the wash day experience. Go ahead and check them out to see how other bloggers' wash day went down.

  1. Yay! For good routine trouble-free #washdayexperiences! When in your process do you detangle? I love the top knot honey!

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!

    1. Can I tell you?! lol
Is it weird that sometimes I don't "detangle" per se? I lightly ran my fingers through my hair during prepoo with the application of the product. Depending on the style my hair was in (like buns and other "straight styles", I don't have an official detangle step. However, I usually detangle for braidouts & other curly styles.
      My pleasure!

  2. Raaay Abbi! Luvin the bun! Quick question, when you air dry in the bun while its still a bit damp, does it dry in clumps? I dunno, mine does, which is why I have to be finger-detangling/brushing it intermittently while it dries - sigh my hair is special lol.

    1. haha thanks Rach.
Um no, I haven't noticed any clumping.
The bun just air-dries the hair without drying it out.

  3. I have become a fan of deep conditioning on dry hair. Drying the hair in the bun is good to lock the moisture in, but I cannot do that because I have low porosity hair.

    1. I don't know if I "love" dry deep conditioning or I'm just lazy haha skip a few steps you know?! lol
But I will say I haven't noticed any adverse effects versus deep conditioning after shampooing.
Oh, I know what you mean.

  5. Lovely style and smooth sailing washday! i'm not so into deep conditioning on dry hair...to me it feels like the conditioner may not penetrate my low porousity hair well because the other products i have moisturised and sealed with during the week have not been washed off. so when i shampoo i remove all the deep conditioning i have just added.... (dats just how i feel lol).

    1. Yeah I understand. I don't really have that concern, I suppose my hair just soaks up the moisture from the week, there's always room for more hahaha. But if I did though, I would shampoo, air-dry a bit and then apply the deep conditioner. I feel the dryer the hair, the more it absorbs the DC.

      I will!
