Wash Day - Braid-outs, Beaches & Buns

So after a fun-filled Heroes Weekend in the countryside and inherently, at the beach, my hair was due for a little pampering.

side twist for a day at the beach in Negril

I started my wash day by taking it out of the side twist and spraying my scalp with a concoction I came up with, consisting of water, peppermint, tea tree and lavender oils.  I them misted my hair a little and covered with a plastic cap to prepare it for the process ahead.

I went into the kitchen and saw that the bananas had become overripe while I was gone, so I threw them into the blender along with some EVOO, honey and water for a pre-shampoo treatment. I applied the mixture to my hair and re-covered it for about 30 minutes or so.

I hopped in the shower and shampooed with Shea Moisture - Moisture Retention shampoo. Then I got out of the shower and proceeded to t-shirt dry for a good 40 minutes. I wanted all the excess water gone so that my deep conditioner could penetrate the shaft. However, when I took the t-shirt down and felt my hair I was in heaven! Soft as a baby's behind I tell you! So I decided to forego the 2nd deep conditioning, since the first one did such a great job.

The next step then, was to dampen my hair and execute the LOC method of moisturizing. This time around, I used my oil mix and topped it off with a new product - Lottabody's Moisturize Me. I'll do a thorough review of this product after I've used it a few more times, but so far so good.

Finally, I threw my hair into a bun at the middle/ back of my head to air-dry and called it a night. Nothing fancy, just functional. I haven't taken it down to see the outcome yet. What's the rush? The less manipulation the better, eh?!

P.s. As per usual, this post is part of the #washdayexperience. Check it out for more wash day posts.

    1. Yay is right! lol
You know I've never strained a DIY conditioner before, but I had to strain this one.
      I suppose I didn't blend long enough.
      My pleasure girlie!

  4. The DIY treatment sound very nice. I've never used banana. Is it moisturizing or strengthening?

    1. It is! I always include banana in my DIY treatments.
The banana is a little bit of both. But the honey, oil, & water took the moisture levels through the roof.

  5. I may just hop on to this DIY treatments band wagon :). I'm waiting to see your response to KLP's question about straining.
