On My Radar... Max Hydration Method

I love it when new methods are introduced to the hair world. I love to learn new things that could potentially take my hair journey to the next level. My interest has been piqued lately by the myriad of ladies singing the praises of the Max Hydration Method. This method was developed by PinkeCube for ladies with low porosity, type 4 natural hair. What's this got to do with me you ask? Absolutely nothing! My hair is medium to high porosity, and yes it's type 4 but it's relaxed so nothing there. However they had me at Max Hydration. I mean who doesn't love moisture. You may remember that I struggled with dry hair in the past and any regimen which promises optimum moisture levels has my attention.

So what is this method?

It consists of 5 steps:

a. Cherry Lola Caramel treatment - this step is done prior to beginning the regimen. It is then skipped in subsequent cycles and done on an as-needed basis.
  1. Clarifying
  2. Co-washing and detangling
  3. Bentonite Clay
  4. Leave-in and gel

This regimen should be executed every day or every 2-3 days at most, so as to infuse the hair with lots of moisture. Watch this video for more info.

Now, as with any product or technique in the hair world, one should tweak it to make it work for them. As I said before, being a normal-high porosity, relaxed head, I will skip any steps designed to open up the cuticles too much (such as the baking soda rinse) or those aimed at styling in a wash and go fashion. Instead, I will keep the parts of the regimen that are aimed solely at achieving super moisturized hair. Call me crazy, but I'll be heading out shortly to acquire some of the products needed to get my max hydration on.

What are your thoughts on the Maximum Hydration Method?

  1. This piqued my interest as well. I am also relaxed and I have absolutely no idea what my hair type is. But I am about 19 weeks post and was thinking about how this would benefit my new growth in particular. Make sure to keep us updated on how it works out!!!

  2. I'm interested in how the results turn out for you. I'm texlaxed and I don't know what my hair type is. Anything that promises moisturized hair keeps me very interested. Moisturized hair = happy me!

  4. This looks really interesting. Even though I'm texlaxed, I may try it too. I think my curl type is 4a/b. How do you plan to modify the method for relaxed hair since it has a higher porosity? Looking forward to seeing what you do.

    1. Small changes like skipping the baking soda rinse, I may skip the clay as well and just deep condition, and the gel at the end which is supposed to get your curls defined and held into place for a wash and go. I probably won't execute the routine everyday either...we'll see.
