When I bought my first unit for protective styling, I bought a wig cap as well. I wore the pair together religiously. These days, I totally go bare under my wigs because the wig cap, I feel, was doing damage to my edges. I have had thin edges since I can remember. Not bald-thin so I never had a problem.

But a few wigs ago in about July, I noticed they were thinner than before (see below).
The reason, I deduced, was the wig cap 'living' on my egdes and drying them out, causing breakage in that area.thinning |

Since then, I have skipped the wig cap and when I feel like it or remember (perhaps once a week or so), I apply some castor oil to my edges and massage for a quick minute. Thankfully, they are growing back in to their original state and I no longer sport a wig cap under my wigs.

You live and you learn.
Have you experienced thinning edges? How did you recover?
XOXO,
Abbi
My edges have always been a little sketchy too and are even more skeptical after removing my braid install so I am on the JBCO train right now to get them back in tip top shape! Great post!
ReplyDelete-Courtnea @ Finally Growing!
Thanks Courtnea. Yep castor oil will do the trick.
DeleteMesh wig caps are a harmless alternative!!
ReplyDeleteI see. I haven't tried any but the stocking type. Thanks.
DeleteI never had a problem with thinning edges but I too skip the wig caps, they use to snag my hair and you know every strand counts lol
ReplyDeleteThat's right Candice, every strand! lol
DeleteI am anti-wig cap, if I HAVE to wear one, I normally will use one of those mesh or spandex caps - even though they aren't silk or satin they seem to be more "hair friendly".
ReplyDeleteYeah the spandex sounds like a better alternative but I'm off them for now. Thanks for the suggestion Ebony.
DeleteGood day! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance from an established blog.
ReplyDeleteIs it hard to set up your own blog? I'm not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty quick.
I'm thinking about setting up my own but I'm not sure where to begin. Do
you have any points or suggestions? Many thanks
