I was browsing my blog's stats page and realized that this was searched by someone in recent times:
"Is it OK to Condition Relaxed Hair??"
Yes, please! Please condition your relaxed hair!
At first I was a little shocked. Then I realized that uhmm Abbi, not everyone is on a hair journey, not everyone reads blogs and watches youtube videos about hair, not everyone is in the know, not everyone knows how to take care of their relaxed hair. So to my friend who asked this question via a search engine again I say yes...
- Condition your hair pre-wash - by pre-pooing with an oil or conditioner of your choice thus sheltering it from the potential harshness of your shampoo.
- Condition your hair during cleansing - by using moisturizing shampoos, sulfate-free shampoos, shampoos mixed with oil, water or conditioner. Or skip shampoos altogether opting for more natural alternatives like ACV and clay.
- Condition your hair post-shampoo - with a deep conditioner to replenish and fortify it for the upcoming week.
- Condition your hair post-wash - with leave-in treatments. Be it a cream, liquid, or serum, use a leave-in conditioner to help your hair transition from a wet to a dry state.
- Condition your hair pre-styling - moisturize your hair (with a water-based product) and seal prior to styling, preparing it for the process.
- Condition your hair mid-week - if necessary, with a co-wash (washing hair with conditioner only, but careful not to overdo it)
- You can even condition your hair while relaxing it - by adding oils and or protein to your relaxer resulting in tex-laxed hair. Which is thicker, stronger and more versatile than bone-straight hair.
Black hair is dry, relaxed black hair? Drier!
So, yes! Condition, condition, condition. Every day, every step of the way!
Yes honey! Condition the mess outta your hair! It's your FRIEND!!! Ha-ha! Great post!

DeleteLuv this post! It's so true my hair drinks all things moisture, if I miss conditioning at any point my hair kicks up a fuss immediately! Lol
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel! Same here, my hair is pretty thirsty too. lol
DeleteLol great post! But true not everyone is on a journey. before my jounrney I only ever protein treated my hair moisturising DC was such a foreign thing to me, so this is a very valid question
ReplyDeletelol you're lucky you were adding protein! I used to just shampoo, condition, moisturize (no sealing!) and style! lol Thanks Yvonne.
DeleteOne can never over stress the importance of conditioning hair. Especially relaxed hair. Great Post!
