Quickie - How to Use a Hairpin

I recently learnt the 'proper' way to use a hairpin and thought I'd share it with you. (I use quotes because IMO there's no right way to skin the cat, as long as it gets skinned.) Anyway, this may prove helpful for some, so let's get into the how-tos.

Taking Care of your Hair while Living in a Foreign Country

You want to go/ or are already on a healthy hair journey, but you are living in a foreign country where the resources aren't readily available. It's hard to find a stylist, products and even support to assist you on this voyage. I get it! I live it! It's definitely hard, and can even seem frustrating at times. Your hair buddy in the USA or UK has access to a slew of products and gagdets and you have to make do with zero, zip, zilch, nada. Look at the bright side though, you won't waste as much money trying something that you happen across in a beauty supplies store, because well, you probably won't happen across much lol

Anyway, here are some tips to make your life a little easier...

Love Potion - Simple Hand and Strand Moisturizer

We're in the depths of winter and with that come dry hands, feet and hair.

I have only ever found one product that I loved for moisturizing my hands and that was the Soap and Glory Hand Food. It left my hands feeling really moisturized without a 'lotion-y' after-feel and too strong a smell. It was gifted to me by a friend who went on vacation to America and so I am unable to get my hands on it now. I have tried so many others but nothing left my hands feeling the same.

Wham Bamn Thank You Ma'am - Quick and Easy Wash Days

We all hate those ultra long wash days that healthy hair journeys seem to bring. Some of us even go longer than we'd like without washing because the process is just too tedious and time-consuming. If this applies to you, stayed tuned. I've got your fix coming right up. Below are some things you can try to shave some time off your eternal wash days.

Quickie - Detangle in the Shower

Detangling can take minutes, hours even. Cut down on your post-wash detangling time by using the aid of the shower stream to make detangling easy breezy.

This is particularly helpful when deep in a stretch. I do this and braid my hair in a few sections and there is no need to detangle when I get out of the shower. And the best part is, detangling with the shower stream takes me about 5 minutes MAX! Couple this with this method for some extra slip and you're good to go!

Go ahead, give it a try.

Quickie - Bouncy Flat-ironed Hair

FLAT-ironed hair should not mean FLAT and lifeless hair, right?! Unfortunately, sometimes it does, especially when there is just too much product involved.

TIP: Do protein and moisture treatments PRIOR to shampooing when you intend to straighten your hair. This leaves it nourished but weightless, bouncy and full of body!

Quickie - Make it Last

Do you have a conditioner that you love oh so much, but it comes in an itsy bitsy bottle or jar? Do you only get one or two uses from your beloved deep conditioner? Make it last by adding water, your favorite oils, or other conditioners and get more bang for your buck. Adding other ingredients will give you the added benefit of those other ingredients while allowing your favorite conditioner to last even longer.

Caution*
Add other ingredients at the time of use only so as not to throw off the balance of the original product while it is being stored.

XOXO,
Abbi

Quickie - DIY Steaming

There's no doubt that steaming is beneficial to our hair. Steam is the enemy of dry hair and our hair loves it some moisture by way of steam. The problem is, not everyone owns a steamer. Luckily for those of us who don't, there's a really simple alternative.

Apply your conditioner to hair. Dip a twisty-turby into some hot water and use your kitchen gloves to ring the excess water from it. Next, wrap your product-ridden hair with the twisty-turby and cover with a plastic cap. You can move to the hooded-dryer now. However, to amp it up a bit, add another steamy twisty-turby and another plastic cap. Sit under the dryer for at least 30 mins and BAMN! You steamed without a steamer.

Alternatively, you can make use of your shower, or pull a DC session at a steam room or sauna.

Quickie - Drink your Water!

Many of us obsess about moisture in our hair (or the lack thereof). We pre-poo, DC, use leave-ins etc etc but what many of us don't do is

Drinking water can elevate moisture levels in our hair, and promote growth due to increased circulation. Increase your intake and your entire body will thank you.

"Milk does a body good"... nuh-uh that's water, water does that!

Drink up!
