All-inclusive Wash Day - 2/21 (10 weeks post)

This wash day, I decided to incorporate some protein. It's been a while, so why not?! I also needed to clarify my hair this week. Much to do, so let's get to it.

  • Finger-detangled, then with a wide tooth comb. My hair was a little bit tangled since I didn't do much to it last week (read didn't detangle at all lol). So I pulled out my trusty Mane n' Tail detangler to help get the job done. I hadn't used this in a while! It worked wonders. It really softened my hair and loosened tangles. I didn't lose much hair at all.

  • Pre-pooed with EVOO and Aubrey's Honeysuckle Rose. Braid hair in 4 sections, and let sit for an hour or so under a shower cap and my twisty-turby while I worked out.
  • Shampooed with ORS Creamy Aloe Shampoo. Did not dilute as my hair hadn't been clarified in a while.

  • Deep conditioned with a moisturizing, strengthening masque.

  • Tea rinsed with a mix of rooibos and mint.

  • Final rinse and detangled with VO5 Shea Cashmere Moisturizing Conditioner
  • T-Shirt dry

  • Finally I moisturized and sealed with Herbal Essences Hello Hydration + EVOO and let it air-dry.

Once again it was a smooth wash day. At 10 weeks post I did not expect it to be this easy. I had no unmanageable tangles and it doesn't take much longer than when I was 2 or 3 weeks post. I'm loving it!!

How did your wash day go down?

  1. Your hair looks fabulous (especially the pic with the 4 plaits - looks really thick and healthy!) I'd like to try this honey suckle rose conditioner everyone keeps talking about! I'm such a product junkie sometimes, help! Lol.

    1. Thanks Rachel. My hair is tricky, it's very fine so in some styles it appears kind of thin and in others, thick. haha I really like it particularly for DCing on dry hair or for pre-pooing (same? lol). aren't we all?! haha

  2. hey abbi...omg your so inspirational...so i'm currently having setbacks because of protein overload...i'm so afraid to touch my hair lol (so structured & a bit coarse causing breakage when I detangle).....I was using ORS replenishing conditioner weekly (the little did I know) and it led to protein overload sigh. So I clarified and have been using for two weeks now "keracare humecto" which I don’t think is doing much for my hair (maybe attributed to the dimethicone). So I went ahead ordered the aubrey honeysuckle rose moisturizing conditioner (that you and everyone else is talking about..lol) which I have a bottle now in hands and praying it will help my rigid hair...sigh... I also recently bought aussie moist conditioner and HE hello hydration for co washing. (the co-wash I was using had protein hidden subtly...sigh again). My fear tho…i’m due a relaxer in a week time and I’m skipping the protein treatment prior to and follow up with the aphogee 2min reconstructor after and then good bye to protein again for another 6 weeks lol… I hope this will help....if you have any advice please share

    1. Hey Petri!! welcome! lol Thank you so much, that's so sweet!
I've been there! I think this post might help a little.

It can take a few weeks to overcome the overload. Clarify often and use up your moisturizing conditioners. Good buy with the Honeysuckle rose, super moisturizing for my hair.

The relaxer may help break down some of the protein in your hair BUT If you are still experiencing breakage by relaxer day, be careful since relaxing could make the problem worse. I recently learned a little 'trick' for emergency protein overload situations. SALT! I hear it helps breakdown protein + it helps retain moisture, so you can try it out. I agree, skip the pre and post-protein treatments and only do the immediate treatment on relaxer day (that's what I intend to do next time too).

    1. It was my first time using it. My hair was left really soft, but I don't know if I should attribute that to the tea or just the entire process. Thanks love! You too!

    1. It's funny, I was about to style my hair and I LOCed in 3 sections, and when I finished with a particular section I loosely put it into a bantu knot for literally about 5 mins and that was the result lol. Thanks.
